- Punjab chief minister USAID Mission Director, US CG; discusses enhanced collaboration in across various sectors
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday emphasized that partnership between Pakistan and US is crucial for regional peace and development, reaffirming her government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was talking with USAID Mission Director Veeraya Kate Somvongsiri, US Consul General in Lahore Kristin Hawkins and USAID Punjab Chapter representative Arisha Bano, said a handout issued by the CM’s House after the meeting on Friday.
Matters pertaining to mutual interest, Pak-US relations and cooperation across various sectors were discussed during the meeting.
The talks covered matters of mutual interests, with both sides agreeing to enhance collaboration in trade, climate change, renewable energy, women’s economic empowerment, healthcare, and education.
CM Maryam Nawaz expressed Pakistan’s interest in leveraging US expertise in green energy and modern technology to combat climate change and reduce pollution.
“We want to benefit from USAID experience based on green energy and modern technology in order to cope up with climate change and environmental pollution issues”, the Punjab CM emphasized.
“We have introduced panic buttons and virtual police stations to protect women and launched modern internships for skilled human resources,” she said, highlighting her government initiatives.
She emphasized that the partnership with the US was vital for regional development and peace, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Maryam Nawaz noted that Pakistan was safer and peaceful than in the past, saying the PML-N government has set new standards of good governance and transparency.
“Pakistan has achieved great success in the war against terrorism and extremism,” Maryam Nawaz stated.
Newly-Elected PBA Office-Bearers GREETED
Meanwhile, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif congratulated newly-elected Chairman Mian Amir Mehmood and other office-bearers of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA). She expressed best wishes for Chairman Mian Amir Mehmood, Secretary General Shakeel Masood, Senior Vice President Salman Iqbal and other officials.
‘CM Aggrieved Over Loss of Lives in Mustang Blast’
Meanwhile, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed a deep sense of grief over the loss of precious human lives, including those of children, in a bomb blast outside a Mastung Girls High School. She offered condolences and extended her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
CM Congratulates Hindu Community on Diwali
“Heartiest greetings to Hindu brothers and sisters on the festival of Diwali,” said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif while congratulating Hindu community on Diwali. She added, “The lamp of Diwali awakens love.” She highlighted, “I am very happy to interact with Hindu families who came here to participate in this special Diwali function.”
Maryam Nawaz said, “Special Minority Card for the minority communities is being launched on 20 December.” She added, “Under Mahfooz Punjab Vision, “Minority Virtual Police Station” is also being established.”
