Michael J. Fox Receives Standing Ovation at Back to the Future Reunion at Rhode Island Comic Con

The Back to the Future cast thrilled fans with a heartwarming reunion at Rhode Island Comic Con on Nov. 3. Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson, stars of the iconic 1985 film, reunited for a Q&A that revisited memories from the beloved trilogy. As they took the stage, Fox received a standing ovation, entering arm-in-arm with Thompson as fans cheered him on.

Reflecting on nearly 40 years since the film’s release, Fox, 63, admitted he “didn’t know what the hell [he] was getting into” but went on to call Back to the Future “one of the few perfect movies,” drawing laughs and applause from the audience.

Thompson, who played Marty McFly’s mother Lorraine, said she feels “lucky” to be part of the movie’s legacy and believes the film’s message on how small actions can have big impacts has kept it resonant for decades. “I thought there was something special the moment I read the script,” she shared.

Wilson, who played Biff Tannen, noted the personal impact his character has had on real-life bullies who later reached out to him, sharing that they were inspired to reflect on their actions and even make amends.

The cast has reunited frequently in recent years, including a 2023 gala celebrating Back to the Future: The Musical on Broadway. Fox recently shared that he grew closer to Lloyd while filming Back to the Future Part III in 1990, saying he later came to appreciate Lloyd’s deep passion for acting.

The fan-favorite Back to the Future reunion marked a nostalgic highlight at the annual Rhode Island Comic Con, which took place Nov. 1-3 in Providence.
