ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned leaders from 48 political parties for failing to submit their tax returns.
The commission’s directive required all parties to file details of their annual income, expenditures, funding sources, and assets by August 29. Despite this, notices for non-compliance were issued to parties including PTI Nazariati and Sunni Ittehad Council.
Among those summoned were senior party leaders Akhtar Mengal and Hammad Raza, who were ordered to appear before the commission today.
In a related enforcement, the ECP also summoned Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s Ameer, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, for an alleged breach of the election code of conduct regarding unauthorized gatherings in Gulberg Town, Karachi.
The summons to Hafiz Naeem referenced a specific event, a ‘Bano Qabil’ test gathering on November 1, which the ECP flagged as a violation of electoral regulations. District monitoring officer Muhammad Saleem Abbasi demanded Hafiz Naeem’s appearance to respond to these charges.
Additionally, the ECP announced the establishment of three-tier Election Monitoring and Control Centres (EMCC) to oversee upcoming local government by-elections across 26 Sindh districts scheduled for November 14.
These centers, organized at provincial, divisional, and district levels, aim to address and register public complaints regarding the electoral process.
