Karachi airport to enforce stricter entry rules after deadly terror attack

KARACHI: In the wake of a terrorist attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is set to introduce stricter entry protocols to bolster security at the country’s busiest airport.

A deadly explosion last month, which occurred on a road close to the airport, resulted in the deaths of three people, including two Chinese nationals, and left at least 16 others injured.

In response, the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested three individuals, including a woman, who were involved in the attack, according to Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar.

To tighten security, the newly announced regulations will require anyone coming to the airport to either receive or see off passengers to present a copy of the traveller’s ticket at security checkpoints. Only up to four people accompanying each passenger will be allowed entry into the airport premises, and access will be denied without a ticket copy.

In addition, those arriving to pick up passengers must also carry their national identity cards, which will be verified at the security points before being allowed entry. These measures aim to strengthen the security framework of the airport and minimize risks to both visitors and airport staff.

The PAA’s decision to implement these measures comes as a direct response to the recent terror attack, with the goal of preventing further security threats. The new security protocols are set to take effect soon, with strict enforcement by airport security teams.
