Nicole Kidman Debunks Viral Tom Cruise Divorce Meme and Reveals Untold Truth

Nicole Kidman has clarified the truth behind the viral 2001 photo that many believed showed her celebrating her divorce from Tom Cruise. Speaking to British GQ for her Men of the Year cover story on Monday, the Oscar winner dismissed the claim, calling it a misunderstanding.

“That’s not true,” Kidman, 57, said, explaining the photo wasn’t taken after her divorce was finalized. She clarified, “That was from a film. That wasn’t real life. I know that image!” However, the actress didn’t specify which movie the iconic image originated from.

The viral meme resurfaced in September when Jenna Dewan shared it on Instagram Stories after finalizing her own divorce from Channing Tatum. Kidman and Cruise were married in 1990, adopting two children, Isabella, now 31, and Connor, now 29, before divorcing in 2001.

Following the split, Cruise married Katie Holmes in 2006 before divorcing in 2012. Kidman began dating Keith Urban in 2005, marrying him a year later. Together, they have two daughters, Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13.

In the interview, Kidman also reflected on her marriage to Urban, revealing she often wakes up overwhelmed with emotion. She said, “Mortality. Connection. Life hitting you. And loss of parents and raising children and marriage … it’s what makes you human.”

Kidman also addressed other viral moments, including her unusual clapping at the 2017 Academy Awards. She explained that a heavy borrowed ring made it difficult to clap normally, adding, “I was scared of wrecking the jewelry.” The actress further embraced her AMC ad meme about getting “back to the movies,” saying she doesn’t mind being part of cinema conversations.
