Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested late Monday on suspicion of rape. Police detained him at 11:12 p.m. near Skaugum, the royal estate where his mother and Crown Prince Haakon reside, and he remains in custody.
Authorities confirmed the charges involve violating a criminal code regarding sexual acts with a person “unconscious or otherwise unable to resist.” The police clarified that while the case does not involve intercourse, the alleged victim was reportedly unable to give consent or resist the act.
The arrest has drawn significant attention due to Høiby’s connection to Norway’s royal family, though he does not hold a royal title or perform official duties. Neither the Norwegian royal family nor their representatives have issued a statement regarding the incident.
This development adds further scrutiny to Høiby, who has previously faced legal troubles, including allegations of domestic violence. The ongoing investigation marks another challenging moment for the Norwegian royal household.
