US pledges support to modernise FIA and national forensic agency in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The United States has agreed to assist Pakistan in modernizing its Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) along the lines of the FBI.

The decision was made during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad.

Under the agreement, the US will also help enhance the capabilities of Pakistan’s National Forensic Agency, aligning it with modern standards. This collaboration aims to improve Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies, particularly in terms of providing advanced equipment and tools to combat terrorism and manage emergency situations.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of US assistance in strengthening Pakistan’s law enforcement capabilities. He called for the urgent provision of modern tools for the Civil Armed Forces to better address security challenges.

Naqvi also reaffirmed the long-standing strong relationship between Pakistan and the United States. He clarified that foreign nationals with legal documentation would not be expelled from Islamabad, but stressed that illegal foreign nationals would not be allowed to stay in the city.

Ambassador Baker extended her best wishes to Pakistan for hosting the upcoming Champions Trophy.
