- Chief Minister directs establishment of urban forests on state land in every city and ‘No to Plastic’ campaign
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday set a weeklong deadline for elimination of encroachments across the province, tasking the Deputy Commissioners with undertaking a vigorous crackdown on corruption and designing a better system.
The chief minister also directed the establishment of urban forests on government land in every city and “No to Plastic” campaign across the province besides a zero-tolerance policy for violation of “Marriage Act”.
Chairing a meeting to evaluate “KPI performance” of administrative officers here on Wednesday, she directed that wearing neck collars for pet dogs should be mandatory with fines and strict action for violation. It was also decided to implement a vaccination and registration system of pet dogs.
Maryam Nawaz directed to designate bike lanes on roads along with a divider and fence on main roads pattern on Chinese model, besides making mandatory for bikers to wear helmets along ensuring proper functioning of backlights and indicators, etc. She directed Zebra crossings on road for children in front of schools and mandatory fitness certificates of school vans.
Expressing indignation over complaints of inconvenience being caused to worshipers and citizens due to stagnant dirty water on roads, the CM directed relocation of slum areas from cities to alternative locations. She directed to ensure restriction of a single-line cart market and further directed that carts should not be seen at any place other than the approved design and location.
She directed to ensure cleanliness of bus stands, provision of fans, clean drinking water and best seating places along with making bus stops and bus depots of every city a model. In the meeting, it was decided to entrust monitoring of the performance of MS of hospitals to the Deputy Commissioners. She directed to launch a comprehensive cleanliness campaign in Sargodha and commended the administration for ensuring supply of fertilizers at controlled rates across the province. She appreciated the administration for creating monuments, waterfalls, beautiful models at intersections in Mianwali and beautification of parks.
She said, “Excellence in governance should be visible in every city. She asserted that dilapidated roads should not be seen in any city, potholes should be filled with patchwork. She directed that signboards should be clearly visible on the roads and new sign boards should also be installed. The land mafia will not be allowed to roam freely in Punjab. Deputy Commissioners should also undertake monitoring of houses being built under ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program.”
She added, “Water filtration plants should be functional in every city. We are introducing a comprehensive plan for sewage and sanitation for all the cities across Punjab. Seen encroachments again after being eliminated tantamount to administrative failure. Strict action should be taken against those selling and manufacturing fake medicines. Grass should not be grown in public parks, no dust should be seen. Cleanliness should be continued with available resources without waiting for solid waste management assistance.”
She added, “Street lights should be operational in streets and markets. Green belts should be made under the overhead bridge, drug addicts should not be seen anywhere.”
CM Maryam Nawaz expressed displeasure over public complaints about DHQ Hospital Sargodha and directed to immediately redress public grievances. She asserted that strict action will be taken if the problems are not resolved despite repeated complaints. She appreciated cleanliness arrangements in Murree on the arrival of the President of Belarus.
CM Maryam also reviewed “KPIs” of Sargodha Division with the DCs of Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar and Mianwali gave a detailed briefing. The meeting reviewed KPIs of cleanliness, health, education, price control and monitoring of outsourced schools. A report was presented on the violation of the Marriage Act, encroachments, cleanliness, condition of parks, beautification of intersections and cities. The KPIs of manhole covers, stray dogs, sewage, transport fitness certificate, urban forest development were also reviewed in the meeting. She also directed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure cleanliness of streets and muhallas in their respective districts along with redressing public complaints.
Message on National Farmers’ Day
“I pay tribute to the hardworking farmers,” said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on National Farmers’ Day, adding, ”Farmers work day and night to grow grains to fulfil our food needs.”
The Punjab CM said that for the development and welfare of the farmers, the Punjab government is mechanizing the agriculture sector, besides Kisan Card has been launched along with Productive Loans for the prosperity of farmers.
The CM said, “Farmers have purchased billions of rupees worth of fertilizers, seeds and other agricultural inputs using Kisan Card,” adding the farmers are being provided with green tractors on interest-free easy instalments.
“Solar energy for agricultural tube wells, and a project to transfer livestock by the state is progressing rapidly. Vaccines, treatment and fodder are being provided to livestock farmers through Livestock Card,” she stated, adding that Agriculture, livestock farming, and the rural economy will be taken to new heights, and no effort will be spared to ensure prosperity of the farmers.
