Trace Cyrus Expresses Concern For Father Billy Ray Cyrus In Heartfelt Instagram Post

Trace Cyrus has shared a heartfelt open letter to his father, Billy Ray Cyrus, expressing deep concerns about his health and their strained family dynamic. On Wednesday, Jan. 22, the 35-year-old musician took to Instagram to reflect on his relationship with Billy Ray, whom he was adopted by in 1993 after his mother Tish Cyrus married the country singer.

Trace began his emotional message by recounting how he idolized his father as a child, calling the day of his adoption “the happiest day” of his life. “Sadly, the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now,” he wrote alongside a throwback photo of the two performing on stage. Trace also expressed frustration, saying, “It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you.”

The former Metro Station frontman continued by addressing his sisters, including Brandi Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, and Noah Cyrus, mentioning their shared concerns for Billy Ray. Trace highlighted Noah’s longing for a closer relationship with their father, writing, “Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life and you haven’t even been there for her. That’s your baby girl. She deserves better.”

Trace referenced their late grandmother, Ruth Ann Casto, as a reminder of his commitment to his father, even amid their differences. “Just like I showed up for you at Mamaw’s funeral… I’m still here right now,” he said, adding that his message comes from “a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon.” He concluded by sharing his own sobriety journey, revealing he’s been over a year and a half sober from alcohol and offering to help his father if he’s ready.

The post comes days after Billy Ray faced criticism for his performance at President Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball on Jan. 20, where technical difficulties marred his renditions of “Achy Breaky Heart” and “Old Town Road.” During the event, Billy Ray reportedly struggled with his guitar and microphone, leading to a spoken rendition of his hit song and moments of confusion on stage. Despite the challenges, Billy Ray reflected positively on the experience in a statement to PEOPLE.

“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not,” Billy Ray said. “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me… That’s called rock n’ roll!”

Trace’s public letter adds a deeply personal layer to the ongoing conversation surrounding Billy Ray’s recent public appearances and relationships with his family. While Billy Ray has yet to respond to Trace’s post, the message reflects a son’s hope for reconciliation and healing within the Cyrus family.
