CM Maryam, Ethiopian envoy agree to fostering collaboration in key areas

  • Punjab CM emphasizes vast potential for cooperation between two countries, translating opportunities into concrete actions

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Ethiopian Ambassador Dr Jemal Beker Abdula on Thursday discussed strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest.

Both the dignitaries, at the meeting held in Lahore, focused on fostering collaboration in key areas such as agriculture, education, healthcare, information technology, and trade. They expressed the shared commitment to advancing partnerships in these domains for the mutual benefit of Pakistan and Ethiopia.

The Punjab Chief Minister emphasized the vast potential for cooperation between the two countries, stating, “There is a wide scope for collaboration between Pakistan and Ethiopia, and it is imperative to translate these opportunities into concrete actions.”

Ambassador Dr Jemal Beker Abdula lauded the Punjab government’s developmental strategies and welfare initiatives, expressing Ethiopia’s keen interest in further strengthening its ties with Pakistan, particularly the province of Punjab. He noted that the relationship between the two nations continues to grow stronger and that ongoing bilateral consultations are a welcome and encouraging development.

The Ambassador also announced that Ethiopia will host a Pakistan Single Country Exhibition later this year, a significant event expected to serve as a milestone in enhancing economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

The Punjab CM welcomed the resumption of direct flights from Ethiopia to Pakistan, calling it a vital step toward fostering closer people-to-people and commercial relations. She congratulated all stakeholders on this important achievement, highlighting its role in deepening bilateral connectivity.

CM Appreciates Swift Work on Development Projects in Rawalpindi

Meanwhile, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz reached Rawalpindi city and visited various ongoing development projects. She expressed happiness over the expected completion of the biggest project in the history of Rawalpindi by May 31 and commended the administration. She visited the Rawalpindi GPO Underpass and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover Project.

The Chief Minister reviewed construction quality of the project and also inspected ongoing construction activities. She responded to the enthusiasm of the workers working on the project by waving her hand. She directed to ensure construction quality in the project under any circumstance and directed to plant two trees on the dual sides of the roads. Two more underpasses will be built to make Rawalpindi’s Mall Road signal-free. Two lakh vehicles will be able to easily pass through the underpass on a daily basis.

The construction of the underpass will make it easier for AFIC and MH patients to cross the road.

The Mall Road will be made signal-free for 26 kilometers. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover will be completed at a cost of Rs2.3 billion and the underpass project will be completed at a cost of Rs 4.38 billion. The construction work of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover project has been completed by 85 percent and the construction of the underpass project has been completed by 60 percent.
