Lahore-Rawalpindi bullet train project hailed as milestone for Punjab’s development

LAHORE: Members of the National Assembly, Punjab Assembly, and Senate have welcomed the provincial government’s plan to build an international-standard bullet train between Lahore and Rawalpindi, calling it a landmark project for Punjab’s development.

Parliamentarians said the initiative, the first of its kind in Pakistan, would significantly advance the province’s infrastructure and growth. They credited former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision for the project, while noting that Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi have completed the necessary groundwork.

They confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would soon lay the foundation stone, marking the start of a new era of progress. Former Senator Chaudhry Tanveer Khan said that PML-N governments have historically driven Pakistan’s development, while MNA Nuzhat Sadiq praised Maryam Nawaz’s leadership in transforming Punjab.

Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt stressed that modern transport systems are vital for national progress, with the bullet train project serving as an important example. MNA Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry said the train would save time and offer high-quality transportation, while MPA Malik Iftikhar and senior leader Haji Parvez highlighted its benefits in fuel and time savings.
